The Creators of For Sale By Owner Car Sales have been designing and developing consumer friendly websites since mid 1999. We have always strived to create websites that were both user friendly and helpful to the online community. Recently, the creators of this website had the need to sell a couple used cars, so we researched which online company would be the best to promote our used cars for sale. During this search we noticed that the huge online car ad companies were taking advantage of car owners wishing to sell their used cars online.
For example, when we went to the current czar of auto classifieds (autotrader.com) we noticed that even the most basic auto ad cost the consumer $35.00 for a 3 week advertisement with only a single photo to be displayed. Being that the options in selling a vehicle online seemed limited we chose to place our private party ad with Auto Trader. When we saw the results of our $35.00 ad we were disappointed to say the very least. Our advertisement was placed at the very bottom of the listings for our vehicle's make and model. Above our listing were overpowering dealer listings which we could not remove (and we really tried).
We understand that while shopping for a new or used car, truck or SUV you want to be shown all relevant ads related to the type of vehicle you are searching for, so we have split the traditional used cars advertisement model into two very distinct, yet functionally compatible parts. We provide 2 separate websites, FSBOCarSales.com for private party used cars for sale and DealerCarSales.com for dealer cars & trucks. When searching either of the two websites you will be able to seamlessly move back and forth between the two websites to see all of the available vehicles in your area. The FSBOCarSales.com used cars classifieds website has been designed and dedicated to finding & selling private party used cars & used trucks “for sale by owner”.

How to make the most of your private party used car ad
Using the power of the internet to sell your vehicle can be complimented in a couple of different ways, some of which are free, and others can provide great local exposure. While recently selling my car I decided to use a couple of different advertising methods to get the most exposure for my used car for sale. I used my online ad in conjunction with the methods listed below to sell the car, and I am convinced that the online ad was the key to getting my car sold.
- Using free online services - There are numerous websites online which provide free online ads, but to be honest many of them are not devoted to used car sales and most are not worth your time. But there is a website that allows you to list your car for free and it provides localized searching, the name of the website in case you haven't heard of it is http://www.craigslist.org. While the searching tool provided by craigslist is a little limited (due to the fact that they carry so many different free product listings) it is still a great portal to sell your used car online; or anything else for that matter. The only negatives I encountered while listing my used car for sale at craigslist is that you can only search locally and not nationwide and that you could only supply up to 4 images for your car ad unless you were an expert at HTML and could figure out how to add more pictures.
- Placing ads in local newspapers or periodicals - Placing an ad in a local newspaper can be a great way to generate interest for your vehicle in your local area. The only negatives about placing a text ad in a local periodical is that in most cases you are limited in the number of words you can use and most do not display images. If an image is allowed it is usually a small grainy black and white photo which does little to promote the car, truck or SUV you are trying to sell.
Combining the methods above to sell your used car fastBy combining two or more of these methods you will receive greater exposure and have the potential to sell your vehicle much quicker.
When listing my car I created an ad here on fsbocarsales.com then went to craigslist.org and created a free auto classified and referenced the listing here so that the users of craigslist could see the car's stats and view larger more detailed photos of my car. I then contacted my local newspaper to place my newspaper advertisement; within the text of the ad I also referenced the URL of my listing here on "For Sale By Owner Used Car Sales • Car Trader Auto Classifieds". In that way, anyone who was interested in getting complete information about the car could do so and have the ability to view numerous hi-resolution images.
