Selling Your Used Car Online
As you may have already found out there are literally hundreds of websites dedicated to buying and selling used cars online. The number of websites isn't as shocking as the prices they all charge to place an ad with them. Now, out of the hundreds of websites where you can sell your used car online only 2 of them (besides ours) are worth writing about. The first is AutoTrader.com and the second is Cars.com. We mention these two because they are the biggest players in the online auto advertising business.
You may be asking yourself..."What about Yahoo Auto's, KBB.com, Edmunds.com and MSN Autos?", we do not have anything to say about these companies because they are only partners. By partners we mean that their auto listings are "co-branded" or in simpler terms, they use the listings from Auto Trader or Cars.com to provide auto classifieds to their visitors.
Auto Trader
AutoTrader.com's Ad Rates on 2/16/2010
We chose their basic ad, and upgraded the ad to meet our free ad features. (Prices will vary depending upon which level of advertisement you choose)
Basic Ad Features:
- Online Only Ad
- 3 Weeks
- 1 Photo
- Price: $35.00
Upgrades:
- Run your ad until it sells: $25.00
- Add up to 18 images: $15.00 (one less than we allow)
- Thumbnail photo (search results): $10.00
- Bold Type: $5.00
- Ad enhancements: $5.00 (low mileage, original owner, etc.., and you can select only one)
AutoTrader Grand Total: $95.00

Cars.com's Ad Rates on 2/16/2010
Ad prices seem to vary depending on your location. For purposes of our example we used the zip code of "90210", and chose the "Enhanced" Package as it was the closest to our free ad.
Enhanced Ad Features:

- Unlimited free renewals
- Price: $40.00
Upgrades:
- No upgrades available...
- No ad enhancements
- Only 3 photos of your vehicle (12 if you choose the "Premium" package for $55.00)
- 15 Fewer images than we allow
